The deadline for the 2nd edition of the Concours de l’Histoire Plurilingue is getting close! This contest is open to all children aged 7 to 12 who speak multiple languages at home, providing them an opportunity to showcase their language skills and abilities. You can participate without going through a school by emailing us at concourshistoiresplurilingues@gmail.com for details. Submission Deadline: May 30.

The Association for the Promotion and Advancement of Multilingualism, the contest organizer, aims to value all languages, develop bilingualism and family plurilingualism, and promote a better understanding and appreciation of cultural differences. In partnership with CALEC, they work to support families and foster the harmonious development of multilingual children.

We are extremely proud that Deana Sobel Lederman, the author of the charming children’s books “Noah Henry: A Rainbow Story,” “Masks!,” and “The Sewing Lesson,” is the featured author for this year’s edition. Her books, which have been translated in 14 languages, focus on helping children cope with the challenges brought by the Covid-19 pandemic. With simple, appealing illustrations, they emphasize the importance of masks and the joy of sharing in these difficult times.

La 2e édition du Concours de l’Histoire Plurilingue touche bientôt à sa fin ! Ce concours, ouvert à tous les enfants âgés de 7 à 12 ans parlant plusieurs langues à la maison, est une opportunité pour eux de montrer leur maîtrise des langues et leurs compétences linguistiques. Nous sommes ravis que Deana Sobel Lederman, l’auteure des charmants livres pour enfants “Noah Henry : Une histoire d’arc-en-ciel,” “Masques !” et “La leçon de couture,” est la marraine de cette édition. Ses livres, traduits en 14 langues, visent à aider les enfants à faire face aux défis posés par la pandémie de Covid-19. Avec des illustrations simples et attrayantes, ils soulignent l’importance des masques et la joie du partage en ces temps difficiles.

Pour l’occasion, CALEC et Gymglish vous invitent à une séance de dédicaces, suivi d’un moment d’échanges et un apéritif dinatoire en compagnie des auteurs.

TBR BOOK, the publishing arm of CALEC, Center for the Advancement of Languages, Education and Communities, a non-profit organization focused on promoting mul-tilingualism alongside Gymglish, specialist in online language courses, are pleased to announce the launch of The Word of the Month book. On this occasion, CALEC and Gymglish are hosting a book signing and discussion with the authors followed by a Q&A session and cocktail reception.

CALEC était présent lors de l’université d’été de l’association D’une langue à l’autre (DULALA) à Paris, sur un thème central à notre mission, celui des livres multilingues. Pendant deux jours, un public de médiathécaires et de spécialistes s’est réuni à la médiathèque Françoise Sagan autour de présentations d’éditeurs, de traducteurs et d’auteurs pour tenter de répondre à la question “Quelles langues parlent les livres ? Les ateliers étaient proposés par DULALA en partenariat avec l’Agence Quand les Livres Relient et la médiathèque Sagan. Dulala est membre de l’Alliance pour la lecture. Pour CALEC, c’était l’occasion de tenir une table et présenter un échantillon de son catalogue de livres multilingues, ainsi que la sortie du livre Marimba, écrit par Patricia Velasco et Christine Hélot, l’actuelle présidente de DULALA, et illustré par Antun Kojton.

On October 2, CALEC President Fabrice Jaumont, PhD joined Council Member Ben Kallos, French Consul Jérémie Robert, Community Education Council President Maud Maron, parents, teachers, and school administrators for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate two new French dual language classes that have opened at the District 2 Pre-K Center located at 355 East 76^th Street in Manhattan. The joyous occasion for the families who attended the ribbon cutting and for all supporters comes after a very dedicated group of parents, including members of the Francophone community from Canada, Africa, and France, met with more than two hundred families who pledged to send their children to a French dual language program in Manhattan if one was created. We particularly congratulate the incredible efforts put forth by parents such as Stéphane Lautner, Catherine Rémy, and Nadia Levy who have kept the torch of the Bilingual Revolution burning in Manhattan. The French dual language classes began on September 21st with seats for 36 pre-K students. On behalf of CALEC’s TBR Books program Fabrice Jaumont offered the school several copies of Deana Sobel Lederman’s Rainbow, Masks, and Ice Cream trilogy in both French and English.
